Is It Harder to Be a CTO in the Future?
An ideal career for many people is bouncing back and forth between leadership and individual contributor every few years. I don't see any reason why you can't make a very successful career doing that. In my experience, the leaders that I enjoyed working for the most are people who really had good technical chops and they could really converse with me about my day to day work. And I thought they could probably do a better job than me. That kind of in between space where you maybe swing back and forthbetween senior IC and line level manager as a nice happy place for a lot of people.
