What Are Emoji?
Emoji are small images, symbols or icons used in electronic communication. The word is actually a Japanese word and emoji means character. Paul Galloway works at the Museum of Modern Art where he's working on a book about emoji. Emoji were developed in people trying to make cell phones and pagers back in the 1990s.
