Introduction

This chapter discusses the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIIT), with a focus on ruling out pseudo thrombocytopenia and understanding the various causes of thrombocytopenia. The hosts also provide information about the incidence of HIIT in patients receiving heparin or low molecular weight heparin and the associated risks of venous and arterial thrombosis.
