The Importance of a Neurologic Exam in a Patient With Progressive Back Pain
The patient presented with worsening headaches over the last few weeks. She was brought in today after a nurse found her confused at home. This does make us concerned that there may be a metastatic lesion and we would be concerned about cord compression as you are alluding to. The distribution of where these can compress the spine would be most commonly about 60% in the thoracic spine, less commonly about 25% in the lumbar spine with 15% in the cervical spine.
