Should We Have Ordained Female Deacons?

The verse refers either to the wives of deacons or to the women who assist the deacons, or both. There is no unambiguous witness to or an example of women holding the office of deacon. The real question we ought to be asking is not, should we have ordained female deacons or ordained deaconesses, but what kind of deaconess or diaconal assistant does the new testament authorize?
