Edouville caved. Toussaint had made his point. Moise was reinstated, and the governor's plans to demobilize all locally raised Haitian military forces were put on indefinite hold. By the fall of 1798, Edouville was on a ship bound for France. He would be the last governor to give Toussain any trouble.
