i will link to my interview with melinda cooper in the show notes. It's a really good one, and her book is excellent. What about sident jimmy carter's idiology? How did the leader of a democratic party that had embraced full employment come to so readily embrace austerity? i think one way into it is to think about carter as an individual. He's not connected to the kind of labor liberal traditions that had sustained someone like hubert humphrey.
