Guatemala's Supreme Court Bans Opposition Presidential Candidates From Participating in Elections
El Periodico de Guatemala the leading independent newspaper and Central America's most populous country shutdown Jose Rubens Amora was arrested in July on trumped-up charges El Periodico respected around the world for speaking truth to power with silenced victim of a campaign by Guatemalan president Alejandro Yamate. Just a month before the presidential election the leading candidate to replace the term limited Yamate was kicked off the ballot by Guatemala's top court Move condemned by human rights watch all of this in a country that was an anti corruption success story not so long ago.
