Mitosis and Cell Death

The egg cells are around 1.2 millimeters in diameter. Because of that size, scientists have wondered how all or nothing decisions like mitosis or apoptosis get signaled and synchronized throughout the whole cell. Theoretically, you could have a signal molecule or an enzyme diffused through the cell. And so they were actually able to measure this in one of these frog eggs undergoing mitosis in 2013.
