Scoping down doesn't mean doing some random thing because the entire topic itself is smaller right yeah so you can still aim at something like i'm going to work on one of the most important problems in the world given what other people are working on. Try to make your project sort of like a nice brick that is like evenly shaped and it's like clear what shape this brick is and other people can lay bricks on top of that we can build this house together rather than a pile of sand or something.
