The Importance of Americanness
Claudia says her Americanness to them meant she can't even be involved in conversations about Ghana. She tried hard to be part of her Ghanaian family to understand them, but it wasn't happening. They left back to California and by then she made a decision: If she wasn't seen as Ghanaian and she wasn't treated like a Ghanaian, she wasn't even going to try to be one anymore.
