The Importance of Reading Malcolm X in a Classroom Setting
"I don't think it's a good book to read in a classroom setting because I don't necessarily trust teachers to teach the book appropriately," says former high school English teacher. "This is a book where he is presenting a version of himself to his audience and it's an autobiography as told to another person, so there is definitely a performance element of this work", adds author Mark O'Mara. "[Malcolm X] could be taught really well if they have an understanding of the work and the person."
