In the modern west we have or most of us at least have accepted a very rare specific set of norms without ever thinking about it. Consumerism is our default setting and that means it's become this constant, addicted and assumed pursuit of more. The average size of the American home has increased by 40% over the last 50 years. Americans spend $4.5 trillion annually on non-essential goods meaning stuff that we do not need.
