There is a narrative that this makes it easier, cheaper to make films. But what becomes clear as like the full digitization of hollywood takes place is how directors use high end digial cameras. This idea of digit being guaranteed to be cheaper was really only ever true for film makers who took advantage of cheapness to its full extent. And george lucas is really instructive, because the way that he makes films, even o the prequals in the early two thousands, becomes really standard for a lot digital films at the top level today.
Paris Marx is joined by Will Tavlin to discuss the history of the film industry, how the digital revolution was promised to democratize film, and how it actually helped cement the power of Hollywood and Silicon Valley.
