"I didn't see it coming. I'm certainly not an acquisition officer," he says of his job as head of the Army's rapid equipping force. "The beauty of it was as an instrument, particularly somebody coming off the battlefield, I understood the problems that were on the battlefield." The army gave him $12 million and a couple of double-wide trailers to borrow people from the Pentagon in order to start solving problems like this more.
