The Problem of Loving Someone Who'd Done Such a Terrible Thing
I was researching a different book which dealt with the culture of sexual predation of young girls in the 1970s and 80s. One of the forms I played with was an open letter to Roman Polanski, who I did not obviously know personally. So I sort of used him as a straw man or a kind of totem figure to talk about predatory men that were moving through this world. And yet at the end of that process of researching that crime, I found I could still watch the films.
