Why Are Hard Attacks on Marathon Days More Common Than Non Marathon Days?

The 30 day mortalty rate was 13 % higher if they had a hard attack or cardiac arest on race day. We didn't find any increase in mortality on marithon days in those people who lived in nearby zip codes that were unaffected by the race route. It just took patients longer to get there. All we were left with to explain the difference in mortality was a delay in treatment.
