The Plural of Criteria for Entry to a University

El Nino and the Gulf Stream are two phenomena which affect our climate. Most people these days use data for the singing, don't they? Virtually everybody is using data as a singular except academics. I'm not so easy with bacteria as a singular. For me it doesn't take an awful lot of scientific understanding to realize one bacterium.
