The Kitchen Sink Drama
Not all of these films have a kitchen sink in them very prominently. The term comes from art criticism and then is kind of cross-mobileised into talking about drama, literature and film and television. Ironically, as you say, there aren't actually always many kitchen sinks in them - or if they're in the background. You've just written the BFI Modern Classic on The Taste of Honey, the film of 1961. It's about Joe played by Rita Tushingham, who sets up home with a gay friend,. Jeff played by the great and only very recently late, Murray Melvin.
