The Trappist's Life
Barry Berry was a Trappist monk who moved to Oregon in the 1960s. He saw two monks walking along a road toward a dairy barn and thought, everything i want is right here,. So it can' be right. In 19 70, he bought the house along the mackenzie river that would be home for the next 50 years. As i reread barry's work, it seems to me that the monastic impulse never abated. It simply expanded to include the whole world. His seeker's vision reached out to every horizon it could behold from scraling island in the canadian arctic to australia's nullerbore plain.
