Aristotle was banging on about in noble self love and individual perfection two and a half thousand years ago. Confucius was walking around in East Asia talking about how the superior man has nothing to boast of. So they have completely different kind of value systems that build out from these basic ideas. And there were all kinds of good and bad effects that arise from these differences, we could say this is not 100% but it does seem to be true.
