Are the Commons Legally Protected?
In some ways, it's a mystery. Have they've been able to survive in all these countries despite the dominance of the industrial food system? Well, they survive because they are useful, first point. If they were not useful to their communities, they they would have died already. At the same time, they are deeply embedded in the societies that they govern them. So theyare basically attuned to the rules, the customs, the resources. And also, because in many countries, the commons were already enshrined in the legal frame, so they are legally protected.
