The Fundamental Building Blocks of Human Cognition

I'm really interested in what I think of as kind of like the fundamental building blocks of human cognition. And part of this interest comes from the fact that when we open our eyes and we look around us, we can seemingly very effortlessly divide up the world into discrete units. So how do we do something that's seemingly quite effortless but it's actually be complex? We're being our senses are being kind of bombarded with with stimuli. But nevertheless, we can point out an object, a person, a substance. And so my lab we're really interested in howDo we do that.
