The Fall of the French Empire in Algeria
Algeria was never a french colony. It was always an egral part of france. So the insurgency against french rule, which broke out in 19 54 was, in essence, a civil war. The failure of success sive governments to restore order in algeria and the controversy over the use of torture by the french army were a major factor in the fall of the fourth republic.
