The Psychological Impact of Colonialism in Algeria
Fanon insists that one cannot separate mental illness from the context in which it occurs. The colonized are forced into a specific form of self-doubt whereby they're forced to constantly question their own humanity. This defensiveness when colonization becomes successful and truly dominates the indigenous people can lead to an increase in presentation of mental illness according to Fanon.
