In a way you know we link certain guitar sounds to the sound of California be they know the sound of surf or the birds that you mentioned. I don't know whether that was a subliminal decision in terms of the development of this song and the fact that it ends up being called California ended up being about being in California. "There's definitely a melancholy there like there's a kind of a real sadness that runs through this track," he says. 'I wrote this when it was the middle people are fighting over hand sanitizer and everything shut down'
