How Does the Byzantine Empire Change?
The sheer extent of this empire opens everyone's horizons in many ways, especially this requirement that you travel to Central Asia to indicate your submission. And all of a sudden you're having to go to places where you only had a dim awareness of before. So it is a tremendously interesting time when it comes to sort of the broadening of so many different societies' horizons across Eurasia and elsewhere. As they begin to see beyond sort of the horizon of previous generations.
