The Importance of Predonating Blood Before Surgery

In surgery, you need to replenish the volume of blood. No matter how healthy the patient's blood is, if it's all on the floor, it's not doing a much good. What we do is collect that blood and return it to the patient at the bedside. It's called cell saver. The volume, though, as you mentioned, can't be replaced. You don't have to give blood to replace the volume. Use sterile water that has electrolytes in it to sustain the volume.
