The Principle of Quantitative Mechanism
Aristotelians are saying curves are qualities. The shapes cannot be reduced to quantity. They're wrong. Now he finds a new place for qualities which is in the mind. He wants to say, look, there's a principled reason why we need to find things in the order of size, shape and movement and be mechanists. That is the only comprehensible line to take here. Once we know that we can treat any shape in quantitative terms, then whatever is out there is quantitative, we don't need any qualities.
