Helium Diffusion Rates in Noble Gases and Minerals
helium is by product of uranium decay, as we've said, in zircon crystals within crustal rocks in New Mexico. And up to 58% of the helium that you would expect from one and a half billion years of decay is there in the rocks. However, the diffusion rate in noble gases of noble gases are so complex both theoretically and experimentally that helium concentrations are not considered reliable for any dating implications.
