The 1918 Flu

There are a couple different ideas. One is that the elderly were protected because they had been exposed to a similar virus in their youth. Another theory is that young people had also very healthy immune systems so that by the time the virus had invaded all of their lungs, the immune response that their bodies mounted was so severe that it was that that actually killed them.
