The Pros and Cons of Intersex Surgery
As early as the 1930s, trans people started showing up at Johns Hopkins claiming to be intersex. The same kinds of medical techniques and procedures that are coercively and often non-consentually performed on intersex people in order to force them into a sexed appearance is denied to transgender people. "I just really wish we could have a much more complicated conversation," says author Hugh Jackman.
