Psychiatry and the Veteran's Affairs Hospital
When i graduated from nursing school at aged forty, the only job i could get was at a veteran's affairs hospital. It didn't help that the veterans teased me relentlessly, asking over and over if i was married. Their spirit and resilience in the face of tremendous adversity were a kind of miracle. I've retired now, but i still volunteer on that ward twice a week. I feel like i'm visiting my family.
