The Life and Times of Captain Lindsay and Mariah Bell
Captain Lindsay worked his way up the ranks, eventually becoming Commander in Chief of the East Indies Station. He did welcome King George III and Queen Charlotte aboard one of his ships. At some point, Captain Lindsay gave Mariah a hand up, and when Daito was about 13 and 1744 and Mariah was about 28, he gave her a plot of land in Pensacola, Florida. On the property record, Mariah stated that she had been enslaved, that she had lived in London, and had manumatted herself for 200 Spanish dollars.
