We have roughly almost half a million surgical site infections in the United States every year. The total cost of these surgical site infections can push as high as $10 billion in health care costs each year. We typically will divide this into the preoperative period, the interpretive period, and the postoperative period. There are several prevention strategies for surgical site infections.
