I don't think stonehouse ever thought the game was up. What happened was that he wanted money out of the cheques in order to pursue his own goals. He tried to give them as little information as he could, which was very frustrating for the cheques. And they paid him large sums of money a there were a number of episodes that arose whilst he was provididg with information which did give cause for concern. There was one particular ampe called will owen who was also in the employ of the cheque's because he was solely after money.
