Is Reason a Slave to the Passions?
The definition is related to the famous statement of David Hume that reason must always be a slave to the passions. It is easily misunderstood as saying well we have no choice but to you know to splurge to blow our stack, he says. In fact a large part of the latter part of your book is saying we are rational beings but what we're not ultimately We're using rationality in a local sense and it doesn't get us what we need want globally.
