Apocalypse Literature - The Book of Revelation

In the ancient world, there were a bunch of these apocalypses that were written. They were quite similar to the book of Revelation. This was a whole genre of literature. These were written in order to criticize on the one hand,. There were three purposes for these kinds of books. One was to criticize the empire. So first the Greek empire, then the Roman Empire. And finally, they were written to give hope to faithful Jewish people - even if this happens after they die.
