The Debt Ceiling and the Republicans' War on Extraordinary Measures
In Washington, they are gearing up for a major fight over raising the nation's borrowing cap. In January, Janet Yellen told Congress that we had hit the debt ceiling and so the U.S. could no longer borrow but was able to continue paying the bills. The Treasury Department has warned that it will start taking extraordinary measures when the government is unable to pay its bills.
