The Origin of Trinitarian Theology

The doctrine of eternal generation is, I think, the most difficult aspect of Trinitarian theology. Not until origin in the East and Novation in the West would early Christian thinkers give sustained and reflective thought to this doctrine. Eric Nance was far more of a churchman than a philosopher, so his thought on the logos is more biblically and traditionally-oriented. By far, most early Christians identified Lady Wisdom with Christ, not the Spirit.
