Shulam's World, a Shuttle From the Old World
Shulam is from an ultra-Orthodox community that's even more Orthodox than the one where he lives in Brooklyn. New Square, 30 miles north of New York City, was built to recreate a shuttle from the Old World. The Yamaka's here were bigger; men and women walked on different sides of the street. They engage with the surrounding culture to a much larger degree.
