After Sigismund died in 1437, the crown of Hungary passed to his son-in-law. John Hunyadi was not initially an important figure. But he was a talented soldier and politician. The Hungarian Civil War and the ever-present Ottoman threat allowed him to elevate himself into the peak of Hungarian politics.
