Akira: Black women, often single mothers, leveraging the power of their numbers to make gains for their communities. Mary Sanford was pivotal to getting subway service in a Northwest spur where most of the public housing was concentrated. Susie Lebourn met with President Carter and started Economic Opportunity Atlanta. Eva Davis brought resources to East Lake Meadows in particular. These women knew it was a viable project. They were living there. What they needed was investment in this viable program.
