The Voice of Abraham
Abraham pushed down a flare of anger that was flashing in his mind along with the old fear. He picked up Isaac, hesitating over his son's limp weight as he shifted it to one arm so we could pick up his cloak with the other. The voice repeated its loathsome new message about Isaac the following night and the one after that. On the next bleak morning early, Abraham awoke and left the comfort of his place next to Sarah's sleeping body and stepped carefully over Isaac's. It might instruct them tomorrow or not, Isaac, your only son faithless, faithless Isaac.
