The Evolution of Hypnosis in Shamanic Cultures

The distribution of hypnotic ability, which appears to be genetic, would have been much higher in shamanic cultures. In our society, it doesn't work on everyone because our society doesn't favor that particular trait. And so you get this sort of runaway evolutionary cascading effect. This is one of the things that evolutionary psychology has taught us.
