Polykarp's Epistle to the Philippians
Polykarp of Smirna, like his colleague Ignatius, was executed by the Roman state. An alleged eyewitness account of Polykarp's martyrdom has survived. Irenaeus is one of the most important figures in 2nd century Christian history. The book Against Herrisies cautioned its reader against incorrect beliefs.
