The Death of a Bulgarian Dissident

Bulgarian defector Georgie Markov was shot in 1978 on the Waterloo Bridge over the River Thames. The pellet that he had been shot with 10 days earlier or now two weeks previously was still in Kostov's back and investigators quickly determined that it still contained ricin. In 2006, a documentary film from windfall films revealed that the assassin was Francesco Gullino, a Danish citizen of Italian descent. Despite this new information for many years after that, the case remained officially unsolved. But as recently as 2017, Scotland Yard was still investigating the case.
