Evolvability is the ability to evolve complex sphenotypes. Totoe says modularity, robustness and epistasis could explain how this can happen. Modularity means that mutations in one gene do not necessarily disrupt other genes' jobs. But when they suddenly come under a divergent selection for instance, modularity becomes a constraint.
