The original owner, John Whitehead, is aware of the fact that African Americans are buying up the land. This would have been a very rare situation in those days. It's raised questions for me about whether John Whitehead was just simply in a financial situation where he needed to sell the land or if perhaps he had abolitionist leanings himself. Why was it called Seneca Village? How soon did they name it that?
