We tend to plan for the best case scenario. When we're planning, we frequently plan like this and disregard any risks or potential delays. Daniel Kahneman gives a great example in his book Thinking Fast and Slow. We don't consider history or historical data that we might have. The Sydney Opera House was not able to be built as originally planned because of geological surveys.
